breather

Breathe in with the light. Let it go. Watch it drift.

Press and hold as the orb grows. Let go as it shrinks. That is the whole instruction, and it is enough, because the timing is the exercise rather than something you have to remember.

more about breather

There are a few rhythms to breathe along to. The cyclic sigh takes a double draw in and a long release out. Resonance is even at both ends, in and out at the same steady rate. Box holds at the top and the bottom, four counts each way, which is the one people use for focus.

Pick where you are doing it. Night, a rooftop, rain or a wide vista, each drawn rather than filmed, and each quiet enough to sit behind a breath without competing with it.

A breath timed well blows a vapor ring, which is the only thing here that resembles a score. The toy keeps how many full breaths you have taken, your longest run of them in a row, and how many rings you have blown, all on your own device.

It is the one toy in dopa with nothing to press repeatedly, no combo to keep alive and nothing to collect faster. Reach for it when the rest of the playground is the wrong idea.

It runs in the browser with nothing to download, and it needs WebGL to draw the orb, so a device without it gets a still preview instead of something broken.

questions

How do I use Breather?

Press and hold to breathe in with the glowing orb, then let go to breathe out a soft cloud of vapor. Follow the ring's rhythm and take a calm minute.

Is this a smoke break?

It's the calm part of one (the pause and the exhale), with no cigarette and nothing to inhale. Just a beautiful, all-ages breathing break.

Which breathing pattern should I pick?

Start with the cyclic sigh: a double inhale and a long, slow exhale that many people find settles them quickly. Resonance and box breathing are there for a steadier rhythm.
